Daily Routine

A Typical Session for a 2 Year Old at Trinity

Every session is consistent and predictable, because 2 year olds thrive on routine and knowing what comes next.

👋

Warm Welcome & Free Play

A familiar greeting from their key person and self-directed free play helps toddlers settle at their own pace, choosing activities, connecting with friends, exploring the environment.

🎵

Circle Time, Songs & Stories

Group activities including circle time, singing, and story time support language, listening, and early social skills in a fun, low-pressure setting.

🌳

Outdoor Play & Physical Activity

Access to our outdoor garden every session, running, climbing, planting, exploring. Physical development and outdoor learning are integral, not optional.

🥗

Snack Time

A healthy snack is provided free every session. Children bring their own hot or cold meal from home, supporting cultural food preferences and family choice.

🎨

Creative & Investigative Play

Sensory activities, creative arts, role play, and simple investigations, all carefully planned to support the seven EYFS areas of learning in age-appropriate, enjoyable ways.

😴

Rest Time (if needed)

Children who need a nap have access to a quiet, comfortable sleeping area. We work with families to support consistent rest routines for every individual child.

EYFS Learning

EYFS Learning at Age 2, The Three Prime Areas

The EYFS framework identifies three Prime Areas as the most critical at age 2. Everything else builds from these foundations.

Prime Area 1
💬

Communication & Language

The foundation of everything. At Trinity we use songs, stories, cue cards, running commentary, and one-word extension techniques specifically for 2 year olds, every day, in every session.

Prime Area 2
😊

Personal, Social & Emotional Development

Forming attachments, learning to manage emotions, beginning to share and take turns, our key person approach and small group environment give 2 year olds the security they need to develop socially.

Prime Area 3
🤸

Physical Development

Fine and gross motor skills develop rapidly at age 2. Our indoor resources, outdoor garden, climbing, sensory play, and creative arts all contribute to healthy physical development.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions, 2 Year Old Childcare

The questions Dagenham parents ask us most before their 2 year old starts preschool.

Does my 2 year old qualify for free childcare in Dagenham?
Some 2 year olds qualify for 15 free hours per week through the EYPP scheme (for families receiving certain benefits) or, from September 2024, through the working families entitlement. Trinity Playcentre will check your eligibility and guide you through the application at no charge. Full funding information →
What is EYPP and does it affect my fees?
EYPP (Early Years Pupil Premium) is additional government funding provided to early years settings to support 2-year-olds from disadvantaged families. If your child qualifies for the 2-year-old funded entitlement, your preschool sessions at Trinity are free. EYPP funding is received by Trinity directly and used to enhance your child's learning and development.
How do I apply for 2-year-old funded hours?
There are two routes. For the benefits-based entitlement, apply via your local council (LBBD). For the working families entitlement (from Sept 2024), apply via the Government Gateway at Childcare Choices. Our team can walk you through either route, just get in touch.
How do you support communication and language at age 2?
We use several evidence-based approaches every session: daily singing, storytelling, and rhymes; cue cards for visual language support; running commentary during play (narrating what we and the children are doing); and one-word extension, when a child says "ball", we say "yes, big ball!" This consistent approach builds vocabulary and confidence at the pace that matters most.
How much does preschool for a 2 year old cost at Trinity?
Funded places are free for eligible families. Additional hours beyond your funded entitlement are £13.50 per hour. Half day sessions are £36–£45 and full day sessions are £72–£90 for families not yet accessing funded hours. Free snacks are included in all sessions. Contact us for a personalised quote.
Is there a waiting list?
There is currently no waiting list at Trinity Playcentre. However places are limited, so we recommend registering as early as possible to secure your preferred sessions. Register now →
When do funded hours start, from their 2nd birthday?
Funded hours begin the term after your child's 2nd birthday. There are three term start dates each year: January (for children born September–December), April (born January–March), and September (born April–August). Our team will confirm the exact start date for your child and help you prepare the application in advance.
What happens when my child turns 3?
All 3-year-olds in England receive 15 free hours per week, no eligibility criteria, no application needed beyond registering the entitlement. Working families can access 30 hours. Your child can stay at Trinity and we will manage the transition in their entitlement. See our preschool for 3 & 4 year olds →
